Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday urged sarpanchs in the state to take steps for making their villages coronavirus-free in the next 15 days.
He made the appeal during a virtual meeting with the village heads on the occasion of Gujarat s Foundation Day.

Gandhinagar: At least 18 Covid-19 patients died due a fire at a Covid designated hospital in Bharuch district on Saturday morning.
Over 50-60 patients were admitted in the Patel Welfare Hospital when the fire broke out in the ICU ward at midnight. The fire officers have said that the hospital did not have an NOC for fire.
The fire erupted in the middle of the night in the designated Covid hospital on the Bharuch-Jambusar highway, around 190 km from the state capital Ahmedabad. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, according to the officials.

The fire was controlled within an hour and around 50 patients were rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals.

The government will start the vaccination drive for 18-plus age group from Gujarat Foundation Day, today
GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will launch the free vaccination programme against Covid-19 for above-18 age group on the state’s Foundation Day on Saturday, May 1.
However, the vaccination drive will be launched in only 10 districts due to insufficient availability of vaccine doses. All registrations are to be on the online portal cowin.gov.in with no provision of spot registration.
The vaccination programme is being launched with the help of the central government, said Rupani. The chief minister said the 10 districts are Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Kutch, Mehsana, Bharuch and Gandhinagar where the incidence of the pandemic is higher.
