Honda Civic Type R Crate Engine Is Better Than Ever

The package is designed for simple, reliable engine swaps. It s one of the best front-wheel-drive cars on the market, and a big part of what makes the Honda Civic Type R so good is its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Yes, it may lack some of the high-revving antics of older, naturally-aspirated Honda engines, but it s more powerful with a stout 306 horsepower. A few years ago, Honda made this engine available for purchase as a crate engine, which was great news for amateur racers and professional race teams alike. Now, Honda Performance Development (HPD) has announced a more comprehensive crate engine and Controls Package.

2022 Honda Civic Type R Will Be 100% Gasoline-Powered

The hot-hatch won t have hybrid assist and will represent one of the final gas-powered Hondas ever. An all-new Honda Civic Type R hot hatch is expected to go on sale sometime in 2022. Unlike the current generation, the next Type R will not be built in the UK but in the US following the closure of the Swindon factory later this year. But that s the big reason why the 2022 Type R will represent the end of an era for the Japanese automaker. Autocar reports it has received confirmation the next Type R, based on the 11th generation Civic, will be one of the last purely gasoline-powered Hondas ever. Honda aims to have a hybrid or pure electric variant for all of its models beginning in 2022. The original date was 2025 but recent global events have forced Honda to speed things up.

Honda Civic Type R Factory Shut Down Again

There s one reason why. The current generation Honda Civic Type R hot hatchback and Civic Hatchback are both built in the UK at the automaker s Swindon factory. This will change for the upcoming eleventh-generation models that are set to be built in the US. In the meantime, the outgoing generation models remain in production but there s a problem. Again. Automotive News Europe reports Honda has been forced to halt production for a second time at Swindon for at least two days this week because of global supply delays. Swindon was forced to shut down for a few days last month because of several issues, such as growing Covid-19 numbers and Brexit-related problems.
