Bright young students get a taste of work
Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership chief executive Jo Lappin
Bright young students have had a taste of the world of work as part of the Dream Placement initiative.
Dream Placement – supported by Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) – is a unique county initiative project managed by the Centre for Leadership Performance (CfLP), that links bright, motivated young students, aged 16 to 18, with successful county businesses to help them learn about the world of work.
Workington Academy sixth form student Ebony Ritchie has spent the week working alongside the CLEP team to better understand its role in determining local economic priorities and advocating on behalf of Cumbria.

Employers are being encouraged to support a virtual work experience event. Speakers for Schools, founded in 2010 by ITV’s Political Editor Robert Peston, is calling for Cumbrian employers to get involved with its virtual work experience event. The organisation is encouraging business owners to learn more about offering young people in Cumbria the chance to get involved in the world of work in our digital society. Cumbrian employers have a history of inspiring young people by offering meaningful experiences within the world of work. Speakers for Schools works with these employers to continue to improve and advance this support to reflect the difficulties we are currently facing, largely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
