For businesses that have managed to hang on through the pandemic, the Guam Economic Development Authority’s grant program to help small businesses could be the difference between businesses closing their doors in a few months or surviving through the end of the year.
Although it’s difficult to tell just how many businesses have closed due to the pandemic, if we look at the thousands of people on the federal unemployment assistance program, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that these folks aren t working because their former place of employment closed or had to lay off employees.

Group advances women in business by whatever means necessary

The Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the island’s newest business network, will celebrate its 8th anniversary this fall.
The group’s membership is mostly small businesses, chamber President Laura Nelson Cepeda said, noting that most businesses on Guam are considered small according to federal guidelines because they have fewer than 500 employees.
“We have a lot of men, actually, in the Women’s Chamber. One of our biggest sponsors is Sonny Ada. He’s a huge advocate for the Guam Women’s Chamber,” Cepeda said.
