Question marks over HSR Pix for representational purpose only.
PETALING JAYA: The government has been urged to come clean on the reasons behind the decision to cancel the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project.
Former Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) president Datuk Seri Akhbar Satar expressed curiosity over the government’s apparent decision to hush up the matter, while Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) president Cynthia Gabriel accused the government of failing to be transparent.
Both were commenting on the decision by Singapore to walk out of the HSR deal and the lack of details on the part of Malaysia over the disagreements that have led to the break.
KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 8): Malaysia is expected to receive the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (KL-Singapore HSR) compensation claim from Singapore in the next few weeks.
MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyHSR Corp) chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal, however, said the claim amount would need to be verified and agreed between the two countries.
“Currently, we are still waiting for Singapore to submit the claim to us. Once it is submitted, we will do our due diligence to ensure that the claim is reasonable and can be verified,” he told a media briefing here, today.
Earlier this week, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Malaysia holds the view that the amount of compensation needed to be paid to Singapore for the termination of the HSR project is much lower than S$270 million (approximately RM820.76 million) incurred by Singapore.

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 Construction for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project can wait another 10 to 20 years as it is not important, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.
He said since the HSR line is only 230km long, it would not cut travel time much.
“Since long ago, I already don’t think this is an important project. The system (HSR) has to go far enough in order for us to save, in terms of time.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has questioned the logic behind Putrajaya s opposition to a jointly tendered asset company (AssetsCo) with Singapore, for the now-cancelled Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project.
Anwar said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin must address this matter as it reflects on Malaysia s integrity as a trading and bilateral partner with other countries.
