Ondo health workers withdraw services from hospitals

Members of the Ondo state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) have withdrawn there service thereby paralysing medical activities in state-owned health facilities across the state
NUAHP comprises Medical Laboratory Scientists, Optometrists, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Health Information Managers/Officers, Dieticians, Radiographers among others.
They hinged the move to withdraws their services on the alleged inhumane working conditions its members have been subjected to by the state government.
Recall that medical doctors within the employment of the state government weeks ago commenced an indefinite strike overpayment of percentage salaries.

Despite the euphoria generated by last Tuesday’s arrival of COVID-19 vaccine in Nigeria, some challenges may affect the successful vaccination of Nigerians, findings by Sunday Vanguard revealed.

3.94 million doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine on March 2, 2021.
The country intends to vaccinate 70 percent of its 200 million people to effectively get the required immunity against COVID-19 infection.
According to the Director of National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, doses of vaccines would be arriving in batches due to limited supply. Richer countries have gone far with vaccinations, leaving poorer countries behind.

The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, NUAHP, has urged the Federal Government’ to urgently wade into the ongoing squabbles between members of the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations, AHPA and the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, as well as the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, to end all forms of discriminations in the health sector.
The Union made the call in a 3-page rejoinder tagged: The NMA’s Media Outburst on the Medical And Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) (Repeal And Re-Enactment Bill 2020),” aimed at engendering sanity in the health system as well as bring lasting, harmonious working relations among the various professionals jointly signed by the National President of NUAHP, Dr. Ogbonna Obinna and the General Secretary of the union, Com. Martin Egbanu

Minister Donnelly welcomes update on Pathfinder Service
Pathfinder is an alternative care pathway for the older community within the Beaumount Hospital catchment area in Dublin.
Pathfinder is a Sláintecare funded project and sees the National Ambulance Service, Allied Health Professionals from Beaumont Hospital, and Dublin Fire Brigade working together to respond and treat older people in their home.
When a 112/999 emergency call is received, a staff member assess whether the response required meets the triage criteria to allow the call to access the Pathfinder Service. This innovative service enables staff treat and assess the patient as well as provide the appropriate supports and follow up care to the patient, so that the patient does not need to be transported to a busy Emergency Department to receive care.
