The government has increased its prosecutions of fraud related to COVID-19 funds and programs. Given the rapid development of these programs and enforcement, it is more critical than ever to ensure that the government’s evidence and theories comport with the statutory provisions of recently enacted laws.
On May 17, 2021 the United States Attorney General announced the formation of a COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement Task Force. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government provided critical monetary relief to businesses and individuals who were impacted by the pandemic. While most Americans were honest in their application and use of those relief funds, the government alleges that others were not. The Department of Justice (DOJ) will be joining forces with other governmental agencies to step up its investigations and prosecutions of fraud by sharing information and providing additional support to its partners.
The additional jobless benefits will be eliminated in Texas June 26. Author: Jason Wheeler Updated: 6:23 PM CDT May 17, 2021
AUSTIN, Texas Texas is getting rid of the additional federal unemployment benefits in place due to the pandemic, effective June 26. Gov. Greg Abbott made the announcement Monday afternoon, noting that “the Texas economy is booming.”
The federal unemployment compensation includes a $300 weekly supplement from the Federal Pandemic Unemployment compensation.
The governor added that the “number of job openings in Texas is almost identical to the number of Texans who are receiving unemployment benefits.” In fact, there are nearly 60% more jobs open (and listed) in Texas today than there was in February 2020, the month before the pandemic hit Texas, Abbott said in part in a written statement.

The Guam Department of Labor will require pandemic-unemployed residents to start looking for work each week, beginning July, so they get used to the department’s job-search service, said agency Director David Dell Isola.
That means searching for at least three jobs each week, either online or in person, and accepting employment if it is offered, Dell’Isola said. It’s important for unemployed residents to start looking for jobs as soon as possible, he said, because federal pandemic unemployment benefits expire Sept. 4.
“It’s gonna be tough for those people, especially when tourism is slowly going to be building back. There’s not gonna be enough jobs for everybody, but now’s the time for them to start to get the jobs, not wait for when (unemployment) is turned off and we run out of money,” he said.
