Mobile Court convicts 33 persons for violating COVID-19 protocols in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Mobile Court, on Monday, convicted 33 persons who were arrested and arraigned for not wearing facemasks in public places within the city centre.
NAN reports that some of the violators who were convicted after pleading guilty were fined N2,000 each with an option of engaging in supervised community service.
The presiding Magistrate, Idayat Akanni, after counselling the convicts on the need to follow the Coronavirus protocols, noted that those who pleaded not guilty would be remanded in a correctional facility.
She also granted bail to those who pleaded not guilty if they can meet the bail bond of N10,000 each.

Mr Ogbodo Uche Peter, driver of a Mark Truck with registration number AGB 338 YV, on Friday, knocked down a yet to be identified middle age woman walking along the road.
Eyewitness accounts have it that the fatal road traffic crash happened at Lake opposite OANDO fuel station by 1000 blocks before Borromeo- round about Onitsha, Anambra State, at about 1250hrs. And that the crash was due to speeding.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corp, Anambra State Command, Florence Edor, said that three persons involved in the crash comprise (2 male adults and 1 female adult).

A fatal motor accident that occurred along Okurikang road in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State has reportedly claimed about 8 lives.
DAILY POST gathered that the accident occurred on Friday at about 2pm when the driver of the vehicle, a commercial lost control and the bus veered off the road and somersaulted several times.
An eyewitness told our reporter that “Though, I was not here when the accident occurred but it may not be unconnected with over speeding and wrong overtaking.
“The vehicle belonged to AbiTrans and loaded with full passengers going to Uyo in Akwa Ibom State when the incident happened,” he said.

Thirty-two persons have lost their lives in road accidents that occurred in Kogi and Edo states between Thursday and Friday.
In Edo State, the accidents occurred at two locations; Arue-Uromi and Agbede. The Arue-Uromi accident reportedly killed six children; four girls and two boys, said to be from the same family.
An account said the children were crossing the road, while another stated that they were playing football when a Mercedes Benz car in an attempt to avoid a pothole, swerved and killed them.
It was learnt that the incident provoked rage from residents of the area who blocked the road and burnt the car.
