Ibadan, Dec. 18, 2020 The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Command, is collaborating with other security agencies to reduce gridlocks and accidents before, during and after the yuletide celebrations.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting on Friday in Ibadan, the FRSC Sector Commander, Mrs Uche Chukwurah, said the partnership would help the corps to effectively enforce traffic rules and regulations.
Chukwurah said that motorists would definitely obey traffic rules when security agencies were involved in traffic management.
She said that the partnership would bring relief to all road users in the state and those traversing the state.
The sector commander said that the issue of road safety was a shared responsibility and all the security agencies in the state must work as a family.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has sensitised drivers to highway procedures in order to mitigate road crashes during the Yuletide.
NEMA North-Central Zonal Coordinator, Mr Eugene Nyelong, said yesterday in Jos that the sensitisation was a prelude to NEMA’s annual End-of Year programme known as the ‘Eagle Eye’.
Nyelong said that the sensitisation was imperative as the roads were usually busy during the yuletide.
”The exercise is to ensure that drivers obey road signs, obey speed limits and all that is necessary to keep the roads safe for all road users.
Yuletide: Ogun to partner NDLEA, Police to sanitise highways, parks

Ogun State government has threatened to sanction operators of trailers and other articulated vehicles causing obstruction along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and other highways in the state during the yuletide.
It also warned those issuing unauthorised tickets and traders engaging in sales of illicit drugs in various motor parks in the state to desist henceforth or face the wrath of the law.
The Chairman, Ogun State Parks and Garages Development Agency (PAGADA), Hon. Abeeb Ajayi, gave the warning on Thursday shortly after the inaugural meeting of the board members of the agency in Abeokuta.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Niger Sector Command, has confirmed the death of six persons in an accident that occurred on Bida/Kutigi road on Thursday.
Mr Joel Dagwa, the state’s Sector Commander, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna that four other persons sustained various degrees of injuries.
He said that the lone accident, which occurred at about 15.20 hours at Jifan village along Bida-Mokwa Highway in Bida Local Government Area, involved a bus with registration number JJJ 132 XV.
“Twelve people were involved in the mishap; six were killed, four sustained injuries and were taken to General Hospital Kutigi.

A tanker, fully loaded with petroleum product, exploded on Friday near Total filling station in Iyagankun area of Ibadan, setting shops and a car on fire.
The News Agency of Nigeria (MAN) gathered that the tanker, while trying to maneuver in the area, fell into a ditch and leaked its content inside a nearby river.
NAN reports that the tanker exploded and spread fire to some furniture shops, auto shops and some buildings in the area.
NAN reports that fire fighters were on ground battling to put off the fire while the level of casualties cannot be ascertained yet.
