2021 International Roadcheck Inspection Begins Tomorrow | Go By Truck Global News

This year’s Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance International Roadcheck inspection blitz begins tomorrow. From May 4-6, inspectors will be out across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico doing comprehensive checks of commercial motor vehicles and looking for violations. If any are found, the vehicle could be placed out of service. This year, inspectors will be paying special attention to lighting and hours of service. Inspectors will look for critical vehicle inspection violations, based on the updated North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria, which went into effect April 1. The driver’s operating credentials, hours-of-service documentation, seat belt use, and alcohol and/or drug impairment also will be part of the inspections.

Safety violations can lead to criminal penalties

Apr 29, 2021 It’s a felony for a shipper or receiver to require a driver to hire a lumper without getting reimbursed.Max HeineMany drivers assume that the only risk they have in violating a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation (FMCSR) is being placed out of service by an enforcement officer and getting a mark on their CSA Score. Actually, there are numerous criminal penalties you could incur for violating those regs. Felony criminal prosecution of drivers and carriers for violations of commercial vehicle safety laws or regulations is rare, but not as uncommon as one might think. Typically they arise after a fatal commercial vehicle crash, which leads to an investigation by law enforcement, or an FMCSA compliance review.  Less frequently, prosecutions come about after a compliance review where widespread log falsification is found and management is facilitating the log falsification.

Trucker Shortage Hits Home

April 19, 2021 By Pat Pape This is the first of a two-part NACS Daily series on the truck driver shortage in the U.S. ALEXANDRIA, Va. Since last August, merchandise deliveries to Square One Markets in Pennsylvania have been delayed at least 10 times, usually for about 24 hours. The reason: There was no driver available to make the delivery. “Our distributor has never had that problem before,” said Lisa Dell’Alba, president and CEO of Square One Markets. “But Pennsylvania is having a terrible time finding workers construction, convenience store and truck drivers. It’s been difficult and caused a bit of disruption in our organization.”

Why fleets should prioritize camera evidence for safety

Stewart Transport Truck cameras have become so important to fleet safety that trucking insurance expert Sam Tucker believes the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will be mandating their use. “I hate to look into my crystal ball and think that s the case but I really do. I honestly do,” Tucker, CEO of Carrier Risk Solution, said during Truckload Carriers Association’s webinar on improving carrier standing with insurers, April 15. Mandate or not, more fleets are leaning on event recorders, Tucker said, especially at a time when costly crash verdicts are dragging carriers into news headlines. “It s the next big wave,” Tuckers said of truck-mounted cameras. “Even a lot of owner-operators who may not have the ability to have full bore systems in their trucks are going to Amazon and grabbing up a $35 dash cam because they understand the power behind it. I think it s really, from a grassroots perspective, building up.”
