(CNS News) Three Republican and two Democratic members of the North Dakota legislature have introduced a bill that would require professional workers to report information about child abuse if they learn about it in their professional capacity, including clergy who learn about it in the confessional.
If a priest does not report information about child abuse learned in the confessional, he could be charged with a Class B misdemeanor and face 30 days in jail and a fine up to $1,500.
The bill was introduced by State Sen. Judy Lee (R), Sen. Curt Kreun (R), Sen. Kathy Hogan (D), Rep. Mike Brandenburg (R), and Rep. Mary Schneider (D).

MANILA: The appeal comes in a recent pastoral statement by Archbishop Ricardo Baccay of Tuguegarao, chairman of the Office on Bioethics of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). “We therefore support the efforts of our national government to procure and to deploy these vaccines in our country, and we thank the private organizations who have come forward to help acquire them,” says the statement endorsed by CBCP president, Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao.
Prioritizing the vulnerable
In the statement, the bishops urge the government and the private organizations “to commit to a vaccine distribution plan that prioritizes doctors who are on the front lines and those who are most at risk.” They noted that it would be a “moral tragedy” if young, healthy company employees who are at low risk for the disease were to be inoculated before the doctors, nurses, other frontliners and senior citizens who are at higher risk of infection.

(CNSNews.com) - Archbishop Charles Chaput, the retired archbishop of Philadelphia, published an article in First Things in December saying that President-elect Joe Biden “should not receive communion.
“When bishops publicly announce their willingness to give Communion to Mr. Biden, without clearly teaching the gravity of his facilitating the evil of abortion (and his approval of same-sex relationships), they do a serious disservice to their brother bishops and their people,” wrote Archbishop Chaput.
“The reason is obvious,” he said. “By his actions during the course of his public life, Mr. Biden has demonstrated that he is not in full communion with the Catholic Church.”
