Genesee County Decides Against Flying ‘Issue’ Flags on Buildings
The type of flags flying on Genesee County buildings will be now be limited to a select few. In a follow up to a recent story we brought you at the beginning of May, Genesee County commissioners made the decision to ban the flying of issue-related flags at their county buildings.

The resolution was passed Wednesday after the debate started regarding the proposal to fly the Thin Blue Line flag in honor of Police Appreciation month. Earlier this month, a resolution was introduced by Genesee County Commissioner Shaun Shumaker to declare May Police Appreciation Month and fly the Thin Blue Line flag outside county buildings. The proposed move was met with controversy and a divided community. Some strongly felt the flag represented hate and racism, while others felt the flag was a symbol of thanks to those who have lost their lives while vowing to protect and serve.
MSP trooper charged in crash that caused death of unborn twin in Flint Township

FLINT TWP, MI The Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office has authorized criminal charges against a Michigan State Police officer after a September crash that caused the death of a woman’s unborn child.
The trooper with the MSP Flint Post has been charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle causing a miscarriage or stillbirth and moving violation causing serious impairment of a body function, according to a Friday, April 30 Michigan State Police news release.
The charges come after an investigation into a Sept. 14, 2020, traffic crash in Flint Township.

A Michigan State Police trooper has been charged in connection with a fatal crash last year in Flint Township, officials announced Friday.
The Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office has authorized two criminal counts negligent operation of a motor vehicle causing a miscarriage or stillbirth and moving violation causing serious impairment of a body function against Trooper Rashaad Cormier of the MSP Flint Post.
The charges followed an investigation of the Sept. 14, 2020, crash.
At the time, state police reported a preliminary investigation found two troopers on patrol were driving south on Linden Road near Lennon about 5 p.m. when they spotted a northbound vehicle commit a traffic violation. The troopers started to turn around to conduct a traffic stop when their patrol car entered the path of a southbound 2018 Chevy Malibu with three people inside, according to a release.
