Supplied Two more people have been arrested after alleged underworld figure Nafiz Modack was apprehended in Cape Town on Thursday. They handed themselves over to the authorities on Friday. Modack was one of four people arrested in Century View. The three others have since been released. Two more people have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a lawyer, as well as gang-related extortion, kidnapping and intimidation in Milnerton, joining alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack, who was arrested for the charges on Thursday. Modack was arrested in Century View when a team, which included the Hawks, the police s special task force and the Anti-Gang Unit, executed six warrants of arrest for six people they were looking for.

Man accused of starting one of Table Mountain fires granted bail Share Cape Town - The man alleged to have started one of the mountain fires in Cape Town, which firefighters battled for more than three days, was granted bail in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. The charge against Frederick Mhangazo, 35, was changed from arson to lighting or causing an open fire without proper authority. If convicted, Mhangazo could be imprisoned for five years or be fined for his actions, or both if so ordered by the court. According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila, Mhangazo’s charge of arson was changed as he could not be linked to that crime. Ntabazalila confirmed that Mhangazo was granted bail of R500.

State backtracks on arson charges against Mother City b

The State is now pressing charges of contravening the National Environmental Management Act against Frederick Mhangazo in connection with a fire on Devil’s Peak, Cape Town. Until the morning of Wednesday, 28 April, it was pressing charges of arson against him. It is not yet clear which section of the act he is said to have violated. Mhangazo was released on R500 bail in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. The matter will proceed in court on 18 June. It was postponed to allow for further investigations.
