BRIGANTINE - Two duck hunters found themselves up in the air Tuesday when a Coast Guard helicopter came to their rescue,
An aircrew hoisted the hunters to safety after they became stranded on an island near Little Egg Inlet in Brigantine, according to a Coast Guard account.
The hunters were rescued under worsening conditions, with the temperature falling and the sun going down, the account said.
It said the hunters had taken a boat to the island but were unable to recover (it) upon return.
A marine towing service could not reach the hunters due to shallow water around the island, the account said.
CAMDEN - The loss of his pharmacist s license didn t stop a South Jersey man from selling drugs, federal authorities allege.
Alton Chatmon, a Bridgeton resident, has admitted he conspired to illegally distribute more than 1.6 million prescription pills, according to the U.S. Attorney s Office for New Jersey.
Chatmon, 50, also told a federal judge he conspired to launder more than $1.5 million in revenues from the pill trade, according to the U.S. Attorney s Office for New Jersey.
Chatmon operated two drug stores in Bridgeton and Millville until a 2015 inspection found violations of rules for handling controlled substances, says a criminal complaint filed in Camden federal court.
CAMDEN - One person died and two were injured in a fiery crash here, authorities say.
Gary Lawrence, 51, of Woodlynne lost his life in a crash in the Lanning Square neighborhood around 9:10 p.m. Friday, according to the Camden County Prosecutor s Office.
Lawrence was a passenger in a car that struck multiple parked vehicles and a pedestrian on South 4th Street between Benson and Stevens street, the prosecutor s office said in a statement Tuesday. The vehicle then hit a concrete barrier and caught fire, it said.
A memorial of flowers, balloons and candles now marks a damaged median barrier at 4th Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
