The hunters got off their boat to hunt on an island near Little Egg Inlet in Brigantine on Tuesday, the Coast Guard said. But the hunters were unable to recover their boat and shallow water prevented a towing company from reaching them. The Coast Guard said the hunters had only one bottle of water, no food and cellphones with little charge left as the temperature neared freezing.

BRIGANTINE - Two duck hunters found themselves up in the air Tuesday when a Coast Guard helicopter came to their rescue, An aircrew hoisted the hunters to safety after they became stranded on an island near Little Egg Inlet in Brigantine, according to a Coast Guard account. The hunters were rescued under worsening conditions, with the temperature falling and the sun going down, the account said. It said the hunters had taken a boat to the island  but were unable to recover (it) upon return. A marine towing service could not reach the hunters due to shallow water around the island, the account said.

1 Read / Add Comments Members of the U.S. Coast Guard rescued a pair of duck hunters stranded on an island in Little Egg Inlet in Brigantine Tuesday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a call from Sea Tow around 3 p.m., that the hunters had their boat on the island, but were unable to get it to back, Coast Guard officials said. Due to the shallow water surrounding the island, Sea Tow was unable to reach the hunters. Watchstanders launched a helicopter aircrew from Air Station Atlantic City.  Once on scene, they discovered the hunters with only one bottle of water, no food and cell phones with little charge left.
