DANVILLE â Dr. John Conte recently joined Geisinger as chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery and vice chair of the Geisinger Heart Institute.
Conte brings more than 25 years of clinical practice to the team at Geisinger and he provides surgical care in addition to serving in leadership. Geisinger announced he currently cares for adult patients at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre and Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
Conte specializes in minimally invasive aortic and mitral-valve surgery and other complex procedures. He is also an expert in valve repair and replacement and aortic root surgery. The latter can spare the heart valves in patients with abnormalities of the aorta, such as aortic aneurysms.

As the process of vaccinating the population against COVID-19 begins, state Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine on Monday said Pennsylvanians must not let their guard down as the holidays approach.
Levineâs comments at a news conference Monday came as the state saw another 7,887 new cases, including 513 in Northeast Pennsylvaniaâs seven counties.
âRight now, we need people to continue those challenging mitigation efforts, those sacrifices,â Levine said.
The first doses of Pfizerâs vaccine reached 17,700 of the stateâs health care workers last week and officials anticipate another 30,225 doses will reach health care facilities this week, Levine said.

COVID-19 vaccinations continue to spread across the commonwealth and into the Poconos as the effort to combat the coronavirus via inoculations gains momentum.
Lehigh Valley Health Network-Pocono received its first shipment of the highly-anticipated Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine on Friday, Dec. 18, and physicians immediately began doling it out to staff members that very day.
Director of Cardiopulmonary Services Francine Rich-Benton was the first to receive her shot, after which she signed the hospital network’s “Doing My Part” poster to show her commitment to fighting the pandemic.
“It was so exciting to be a part of something so big, that we need so desperately,” Rich-Benton said. “It’s a great feeling to motivate family and friends and the community. I wanted to show them this is important, and don’t wait.”
