KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Shots were fired Friday night near the 100 block of E. Paterson Ed.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety found a 26-year-old man from Mississippi who had been shot several times, and was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

‘We need you,’ judge tells West Michigan police at annual memorial service

While the service is annual, there was no gathering in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the memorial, one red rose is solemnly placed on a table to represent each officer who died. Individual West Michigan officers carry the roses to the table, accompanied by family of the fallen officer if in attendance.
Grand Rapids District Court Judge Jennifer Faber addressed a sizeable crowd of officers and families Thursday, May 13 at the American Legion Boat & Canoe Club at Monroe Avenue and Park Street.
She described police as an integral component to society, even as police have come under increased scrutiny in recent years.

LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Â As of Wednesday, May 12, the state’s official COVID-19 tracking website shows that 869,512 Michigan residents have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The 24-hour data increase shows that 2,171 more people have contracted the virus. In addition, there were 17 new deaths.
On Saturday, May 23 the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services also announced changes to how COVID-19 testing data is reported to make it more accurate and relevant as the state continues to expand diagnostic testing.
Open house at Kalamazoo public safety headquarters will feature drive-in movie, fire engine demonstration

KALAMAZOO, MI – An open house in Kalamazoo will feature a fire engine and a drive-in movie.
The city and its parks department is holding an open house from 5-9 p.m. Friday, May 21, at the headquarters of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, 150 E. Crosstown Parkway, a news release said.
The free event in the public safety facility’s parking lot will feature demonstrations from KDPS and a drive-in movie. The movie will be shown at 7 p.m..
Attendees can also win giveaways from Kzoo Parks that will match the theme of the movie shown, the release said. Kids who bring their helmets and bicycles can have them fitted.
