The days of seeing cars with expired or no license plates cruising around Kalamazoo is coming to an abrupt end.
In October of last year we ran a story about the large number of vehicles on Southwest Michigan streets with no plates. In 2020 KDPS was one of many law enforcement agencies throughout Michigan that suspended enforcement on expired driver s license and/or license plates. This move was a necessity due to very limited and changing operating hours of Secretary of State offices statewide during the pandemic. It was difficult to get a timely appointment for the public. Not to mention how difficult it must have been for the good people at the S.O.S. trying to keep up with the high demand during limited hours. As we are hopefully on our way out of this pandemic nightmare, the freeze is over according to Officer Glen Hawkins with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety in the youtube video below.

LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Â As of Wednesday, April 7, 2021, the state’s official COVID-19 tracking website shows that 715,478 Michigan residents have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Since March 10, when the first death was reported, 16,327 Michiganders have died from the acute respiratory illness. A Breakdown of COVID-19 Data
The 24-hour data increase shows that 8,015 more people have contracted the virus. In addition, there were 30 new deaths.
On Saturday, May 23 the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services also announced changes to how COVID-19 testing data is reported to make it more accurate and relevant as the state continues to expand diagnostic testing.

Three Kalamazoo residents were arrested on multiple felony charges, including a 15 year old who bit an officer s head multiple times.

KALAMAZOO, MI – An officer was reportedly bit multiple times on her head by a 15-year-old trying to escape police custody Wednesday evening.
The incident started when Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to a report of an assault where a gun was pointed at others on April 7, in the 1200 block of North Church Street, according to a KDPS news release.
