The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is enforcing parking laws again. Here s why.
In March of 2020, KDPS suspended parking enforcement after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer s stay-at-home order. Now that we see light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, many restrictions have been lifted. However, parking restrictions are back to pre-Covid-19 levels citywide for Kalamazoo.
The main concern for the city was snow removal when they made the announcement of resuming parking enforcement on January 27th, 2021 according to a recent KDPS press release,

KALAMAZOO, Mich. â One person was injured Thursday night after a house fire completely destroyed a home and nearby vehicles in Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded about 8:30 p.m. to the fire in the 400 block of Phelps Avenue, where they arrived to a home âcompletely consumedâ by flames, according to a news release Friday.
Fire suppression was complicated by active electrical wires that fell into the street, dividing firefighters.
Officers regrouped and had the flames extinguished 30 minutes later.
One resident suffered a minor injury while escaping the fire and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

KDPS offers cross-training opportunities in the fields of both medical and fire-related emergencies. Those who are hired work 14 days in a 28-day rotation, meaning that the rotation creates two weekends off every month and seven days off in a row starting on a Friday.

From the date of hire, new recruits are paid full-time, hourly wages to attend all basic training, including the Police Academy, Fire Academy, MFR Academy, Advanced Police Academy, and Field Training Officer Program.
All tuition, fees, uniforms, and equipment are provided/paid for by KDPS.
