Mayo records highest number of Covid deaths, per head of population   New figures show Mayo and the border counties have recorded the highest number of deaths from Covid-19 per head of population. The CSO figures show that between March last year and April 27 this year, Mayo recorded 180 deaths due to the virus. The border counties of Louth, Cavan and Monaghan recorded the next highest death rates per head of population. At the other end of the scale, Sligo had the lowest number of deaths from the virus, with Leitrim and Galway also among the lowest four counties for Covid deaths per 100,000 population.

Death has taken place of Mayo solicitor Rory O Connor Published: Wednesday, 05 May 2021 07:42 Funeral arrangements have been confirmed for well-known Mayo solicitor Rory O Connor, who s passed away at the age of 74. A native of Bellaghy, Charlestown, Mr O Connor lived in Pontoon, Castlebar and practised at the firm of Garavan & O Connor on Main Street, Castlebar since 1974. Tributes have been paid in legal circles on news of his passing, while a minute s silence was observed at the District Court sitting in Castlebar yesterday morning. A private family funeral will take place on Friday, with Funeral Mass at 11.30 in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, and burial afterwards in Gurteen Cemetery, Roundstone.
