Man arrested following drugs seizure in Galway Published: Friday, 30 April 2021 11:15
A man has been arrested following the seizure of €18,000 worth of suspected cocaine at a house in Galway yesterday.
Gardaí attached to the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit carried out a search of a house in the Headford Road area of the city at approximately 1pm on Thursday afternoon.
During the course of the search Gardaí located a number of bags believed to contain approximately €18,000 worth of suspected cocaine (pending analysis).
These items were seized and one man in his mid-20s was arrested at the scene.
He was detained at the North Western Regional Garda Headquarters in Galway and was released without charge later that evening.

180 new jobs announced for Athlone
180 new jobs have been announced for Athlone.
Pharmaceutical company PPD Lab has announced the creation of the new roles over the next three years as it expands its operation at its Athlone laboratory.
PPD plans to increase the size of its facility in Athlone and will add cell and gene therapy testing to the operation s portfolio of services.
It said its expansion will enhance its ability to deliver global scientific and technical expertise to meet growing customer demand in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.
The current operation employs nearly 300 highly skilled scientists and project managers who support PPD s services, which includes testing to support the development of novel and advanced pharmaceuticals and therapies.

Ahead of Mayo Day this Saturday, schools across the county will take part in the My Green and Red Thumb day tomorrow.
This is a road safety campaign, designed to raise awareness of the risks of distraction from using a mobile phone while on roads and streets.
Traditionally, people have put a string on their finger to remind themselves of something - and this original idea for this campaign came from a driver who painted his thumb nail red to remind him not to use his phone while driving - every time he saw his red nail, he was reminded of the message.
