Churches safer than supermarkets says Mayo TD Published: Thursday, 22 April 2021 07:48 Churches are safer than supermarkets - that s according to Mayo FG Deputy Alan Dillon who s welcomed a letter of reassurance issued by Government party leaders to religious leaders outlining their commitment to the return of religious services. Deputy Dillon recently spoke in the Dail, calling for some easing of restrictions to include the restoration of public worship in a safe and limited way. The Fine Gael TD says most churches are well-ventilated buildings that can seat hundreds of people. When allowed to open last year, he says Churches operated in a very safe manner with  sanitising, allocated seats, one-way systems, limits on numbers, social distancing and face covers.

Alice Maher and Dermot Seymour have had their work acquired by the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and the Arts Minister Catherine Martin says they are among 70 artists who works will be added to the National Collection. Last October, the Minister announced €1 million for the Irish Museum of Modern Art and the Crawford Art Gallery to purchase work by artists living or working in Ireland, and 422 artworks from 70 artists across the country have now been selected, in what s described as a significant boost to both collections.
