Empower raises 22 million yards for cause
By Cassidey Kavathas, News Editor The Yards for Yeardley event, presented by Empower Student Peer Prevention Educator Group in partnership with the One Love Foundation, held their award ceremony yesterday. The event was in memorial of Yeardley Love, who lost her life to relationship violence in 2010 as well as raising awareness of interpersonal or dating violence during sexual assault awareness month. Empower exceeded their goal of five million yards over four times, with their final count being around 22 million yards raised. “We [Empower] are elated with the results!” said Dr. Jennifer Eastman, the director of the Campus Program. “The number of participants is approximately 500, a huge increase from last year.”
Snowy conditions lead to slippery sidewalks around campus

Winter weather has graced Western New York and the Greater Olean area leaving St. Bonaventure University stuck in the cold, covered in snow and ice. This has led to some unfavorable conditions to walk around campus heading to class or to meet up with peers.
“It’s icy and slushy and I slip all the time,” said Caitlyn Slater, a freshman childhood and early childhood education major. “I have to go to class earlier than planned to make sure I can get there safely.”
With campus mainly consisting of students whose main mode of transportation is walking, slippery sidewalks can be a real hazard, according to students.
