MARADAN: The Board of Governors (BoG) of Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Mardan on Friday directed the hospital administration to ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply to the health facility.
The BoG said that the demand for oxygen has increased after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. It emphasized the need for arranging oxygen in ample quantity and adopting a proper monitoring mechanism to check the supply chain round the clock to avoid any human tragedy, more after the tragedy at the Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar where six Covid-19 patients died due to disruption of oxygen supply.
Chairman BoG Dr Syed Fazle Hadi chaired the meeting held through a video link. The BoG members Tahir Ali Khan, Dr Shahid Khattak, Attaullah Khan Toru and Rahimullah Yusufzai participated in the meeting.

Price of oxygen cylinders hiked up in Peshawar
Oxygen cylinders sold for Rs850 are now being sold for Rs1,800

Adding to the woes of coronavirus patients, there has been an increase in the prices of oxygen cylinders in Peshawar.
Citing shortage in supply, traders have increased the price of oxygen cylinder from Rs850 to Rs1,800.
Several markets in Peshawar, including Khyber Bazaar, Karachi Market, Hospital Road and Hayatabad have increased the price of the cylinders.
Earlier in June, on the recommendation of Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Muhammad Usman, the home department imposed Section 144 to curb hoarding and profiteering of oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, regulators and oximetres.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday ripped into the government, asking why Prime Minister Imran Khan assumed office when he was not prepared for the challenges. Addressing the Pakistan Democratic Movement s (PDM) Mehangai March in Mardan here, she said: Before the election, [the prime minister] used to say that he has a team of 200 fantastic individuals. Where is that 200-person team now? Dawn reported. Ministers in his cabinet play musical chairs with each other [.] but that 200 person team is nowhere to be seen in Pakistan, she said. He says that he was unaware about the country s power issues, external debt, the current account deficit, and didn t know how to run the government and was not prepared. PESHAWAR: Fourteen more people, including a 1st year student of Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC), died of coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, taking the toll from the infectious disease in the province to 1577.
The second wave of infectious disease is proving quite fatal in the country and particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has surprisingly affected people of all age groups.
Sana Riaz has become the second medical student, who died of coronavirus in the province. Before her, a 3rd-year student of Khyber Medical College (KMC) had died of the infectious disease. He belonged to the Fatehpur area in Swat.
