A divided Palm Coast City Council did not vote on a resolution to support a Flagler County half-cent sales tax, once again demonstrating the split which has deadlocked members on several issues.
The resolution to support the half-cent sales tax to pay for public safety-related expenses failed because no one seconded a motion to support it during Tuesday’s meeting.
People shopping in Flagler County currently pay a 7% sales tax, which includes 6% from the state, 0.5% from the county and 0.5% from the School Board.
“The County is the only one in the state that’s eligible for the small county surtax that is not levying the full 1%,” according to an email from E. John Brower, the county’s financial services director.
