FPC sends three lifters to state finals | Palm Coast Observer

Duane Hagstrom has been coaching weightlifting at Flagler Palm Coast High School for 19 years. During that time, he’s coached many state medalists (both boys and girls), with his first state champion being Robert Paxia in 2008 (who now is the head football coach at Lake Gibson Senior High School). Since then, five more have joined the exclusive club of champions and Isaiah Rivers, Domonique Bennett and Malakai Grant look to be the next group of Bulldogs to join the group. On Saturday, April 10th, FPC competed at the 3A-Region 1 championships where the team looked to qualify as many out of the tough region. Only three remained after Rivers finished second in the region for his weight division (129), Bennett finished third (154) and Grant took fifth in his respective weight division (199).

Flagler Sheriff School Resource Deputy Christopher Alecrim (FCSO) The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) is proud to announce that School Resource Deputy (SRD) Christopher Alecrim, was selected by the National Sheriff’s Association (NSA) as Law Enforcement Explorer of the Year. This NSA committee appointed to judge the competition for this prestigious award selected SRD Alecrim to be the 2021 recipient. Deputy Chris Alecrim began his career with the FCSO in 2015 and transferred to the SRD Unit in 2018 and is currently stationed at the Flagler Palm Coast High School. Throughout his career with the FCSO, Deputy Alecrim has received multiple Unit Citations, Distinguished Service Certificates and Certificates of Appreciation for his service to the community. Slain Palm Coast student Curtis Gray will be remembered in event

Now Carmen Gray is planning to use food and cooking as a way to engage the community in a discussion to support mental health and combat violence in an interactive program she titled “Who Cracked My Egg?” For the program, Carmen Gray is extending a virtual invitation for everyone to join her in her kitchen in Palm Coast from 7 to 8 p.m. on April 13. Participants can choose from three recipes to cook. They can cook one or all three. She asks that people join 10 minutes before the program starts. “It’s an educational piece in which I’m able to show through the simplicity of a three-part egg: the shell; the yolk; the egg white,” Gray said, “to break those down to show what happens when trauma happens to an individual.”

Flagler Schools middle schools will gain a grade and elementary schools will lose one if the district moves forward with plans to shift sixth graders from elementary to middle schools in the 2022-2023 school year.  BY THE NUMBERS 412 389  145 115 329 275 505 385 seats at Matanzas High School Moving the sixth graders will raise the district s overall student capacity and add space in overburdened elementary schools, but also put more pressure on middle school campuses, requiring the district to rezone all of the schools. The district s current grade level arrangement groups children together in elementary schools from kindergarten to sixth grade, then groups seventh- and eighth-graders for middle school, and ninth- through 12th-graders for high school.
