COLUMBIA- The Food and Drug Administration is expected to authorize the use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for 12- to 15-year-olds very soon, U.S. health officials say.
Dr. Anthony Fauci stated on TODAY that approval for the Pfizer vaccine for 12-to-15-year-olds administration is close. I think it s going to be very soon; I mean, I don t want to get ahead of the FDA, but I believe it s going to be within several days, Fauci said.Â
This is another update for the vaccine to be distributed to teenagers. So far the Pfizer vaccine is the only vaccine that can be given to people 16 and older. The other vaccines, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna, are only approved for people 18 and older.Â

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting nine new COVID-19 cases.
There are currently 59 active cases in the county.
The county now has a reported total number of COVID-19 cases of 18,342.
The county has reported the total number of cases removed from isolation is 18,197.
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services dashboard has reported the latest five-day average as seven.
The county continues to trend down as there have been 98 straight days of single or double-digit case increases.
STURGEON - The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is continuing vaccination efforts in rural communities this week.
Residents from Sturgeon attended a vaccination clinic Tuesday hosted by the Boone County PHHS, where over 40 residents received their shots.
The decision to move into smaller communities comes from the efforts to make it easier for all Missouri residents to get their vaccines.
The Sturgeon Youth Center hosted the event from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The events will continue throughout the week. Harrisburg will host its event on Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Harrisburg Lion s Club. Hallsville s event will take place from 3:30 to 6:30p.m. on Thursday at the Hallsville Community Center.

A Missouri House Bill is seen as a last hope for some offenders hoping to serve shorter prison sentences.
After the Missouri Supreme Court ruled last year that a particular law would not be applied retroactively to some offenderâs cases, House Bill 504 became the next best hope for clemency.
She said the vaccines are optional.
âIt is entirely up to the student and his or her family as to whether or not they choose to receive it similar to what we do with the flu vaccine, but we will be prepared and able to provide the vaccine to any of those students who wish to receive it, Baumstark said.Â
The health department, as well as CPS nurses, will work together to give the vaccinations.Â
Baumstark and health department members hope by making the vaccine easily accessible, in studentâs buildings, more students will receive the vaccine.Â
âThe health department is willing to partner with us on it to make it more convenient and directly through their school buildings,â Baumstark said.Â
