Safest University Campus In Colorado: Report

Reply Colorado State University - Pueblo is the safest campus in Colorado, according to a new report. (Shutterstock) With universities reopening for on-campus learning as more people in the United States get vaccinated against COVID-19, students may be wondering how safe their college might be as they return to the classroom. A report from Your Local Security, a security systems retailer, aims to shed some light on that issue and ranked the safest colleges in America. Using pre-pandemic crime data from the Federal Bureau of Investigations and information from the U.S. Department of education, the company found that Colorado State University s Pueblo campus was the safest in Colorado.

Heather Graham kicks off Pueblo City Council campaign

A small-business owner who has been outspoken against COVID-19 restrictions during the past year has entered the Pueblo City Council race.  Heather Graham, 32, announced her candidacy for an at-large seat during an event at Renewed Wholesale Tuesday night. Graham, who owns Ruby’s and the two Graham’s Grills locations, said she is running to champion the small business community following a year of tough restrictions.   “I witnessed a lack of support for these small businesses and a lack of communication between the city and these small businesses,” she said, speaking to a crowd of more than 100 attendees. When the first wave of closures to nonessential businesses hit last March, Graham said she was left in a near-impossible situation about how to manage her 70 employees. She and her husband, Danny Beaudry, who owns Pueblo Athletic Club, were suddenly without income or a clear timeline of when they could reopen.

CU Boulder, CSU, Colorado College Mandatory Vaccinations Update

Signs of this switch were evident earlier this month. When we contacted the University of Denver in mid-April about its vaccination policy, we were referred to an April 2 letter to stakeholders from Chancellor Jeremy Haefner that read in part: Please note that DU is not mandating the COVID-19 vaccine at this time, although we are strongly encouraging anyone living, learning or working on our campus to receive the vaccination. On April 20, however, DU executed a 180, stating that the university will require all undergraduate and graduate students living, learning or working on campus to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before returning to campus for the fall 2021 term. Proof of vaccination or exemption will be required before the start of fall term; we will provide more details on this process soon. We are also considering whether to require the vaccine for all faculty and staff, and that decision will be shared as soon as possible.

Sarah Martinez enters Pueblo City Council race for District 3

Sarah Martinez, a Pueblo native who works in youth substance abuse prevention, began her campaign for Pueblo City Council s District 3 seat on April 23, the latest of a group of young candidates hoping to reshape city government in the fall.  “I never thought I would be running for city council,” the 28-year-old said at her kickoff event at a home in Pueblo’s Aberdeen neighborhood. It was through my community work, learning how systems interact at a city level, connecting with several agencies where I found that I had a voice and that I could change systems.”  The event was attended by her campaign team, friends and several community members who endorsed Martinez, including Pueblo School District 60 board member Tommy Farrell.
