Sri Lanka has witnessed 11 more COVID-19 related deaths, Director-General of Health Services confirmed today (May 05).
Thereby, the country’s death toll from the coronavirus outbreak now stands at 720.
01. A 33-year-old man from Kongahawela area: He was diagnosed with novel coronavirus while receiving treatment at the Matale District Hospital. He was then transferred to the Theldeniya Base Hospital where he died on May 03. The cause of death was recorded as acute COVID pneumonia and acute kidney injury.
02. An 84-year-old man from Diyatalawa area: He was transferred from Diyatalawa Base Hospital to Badulla General Hospital after testing positive for the virus. He succumbed to COVID pneumonia, bronchitis and lung fibrosis on May 03.

COLOMBO (News1st): Opposition lawmaker Rajitha Senaratne has requested the government to use the Nelum Pokuna Theatre to treat COVID-19 infected cases.
“Do not attempt to establish tertiary care centres because it contributes to the spread of the virus,” Senaratne said during a parliamentary debate.
He also proposed to use the millennium building of the Colombo South Teaching Hospital for this purpose as well.

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Director-General of Health Services confirmed nine deaths caused by Covid-19 virus infection on Sunday (02). The total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 696.
01.
The deceased is a 94 year old male resident in Kebilithigollawa. He died on 29.04.2021 while undergoing treatments in Base Hospital Kebilithigollawa. The cause of death is mentioned as acute pneumonia due to Covid 19.
02.
The deceased is a 51 year old male resident in Polonnaruwa. He died on 01.05.2021 while undergoing treatments in Special Covid Treatment Centre, Welikanda. The cause of death is mentioned as chronic kidney disease and Covid pneumonia.
