Temple ISD creates committee for input on school bonds

County, Temple, TISD and Killeen to work together on redistricting efforts

BELTON — As it does every decade, Bell County is now preparing for redistricting — though this time it is not alone. An interlocal agreement between the county, Temple Independent School District, and the cities of Temple and Killeen was unanimously approved by the Commissioners Court on Monday. The agreement is to allow the four bodies to collectively be redistricted by the same company this year. The four entities will have the county act as a financial agent for the agreement, but with each able to work with the firm Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta LLP on their own. County Judge David Blackburn said that the county and cities previously redistricted on their own each time, not focusing on working with each other.

School districts react to no mask mandate

Masking in schools across the state will soon be optional after an executive order from Gov. Greg Abbott Tuesday. The governor issued an executive order Tuesday prohibiting public schools and other government entities from requiring those on their grounds to wear face masks. This comes as only 30 percent of state residents are vaccinated against COVID-19. Temple Independent School District said Tuesday that it would continue its current protocols until June 4, before conforming with the state order. The district said that starting June 5 all face coverings would be optional but they would continue to encourage unvaccinated adults to wear masks upon entering their facilities.

Bell County, Temple ISD pause COVID-19 updates

After announcing that its director, Dr. Amanda Robison-Chadwell, was leaving earlier this week, the Bell County Public Health District did not update their COVID-19 dashboard Friday. Due to the learning curve required to update the dashboard, the district announced that it would pause its updates until such time as the incidence rate of the virus rises above 80 cases per 100,000 people. While Bell County will not update their dashboard, other counties and local school districts are continuing to do so. Milam County showed on its website Friday that they had five active cases of COVID-19, with three people currently hospitalized. The county has seen 1,446 total cases and 48 deaths.
