Mental health care and treatment for new, expectant and bereaved mothers in Gloucestershire is being improved and expanded as part of a national drive to enhance support for women who have birth related trauma and mental health difficulties. Gloucestershire is included in the roll out of 26 new hubs bringing together maternity services, reproductive health and psychological therapy under one roof. The county already has a perinatal mental health service, which supports women with moderate to severe mental health conditions during pregnancy and up to one year after the birth of their child. The new service will expand and improve care, as well as enable more women and families to be supported.

A PROPOSAL to build a new £3.7 million GP surgery on a field in Minchinhampton has divided opinion in the town. The plans, to replace Minchinhampton Surgery’s existing site in Bell Lane, with a new purpose built facility on Vosper Field in Cirencester Road, have been submitted to Stroud District Council. So far, the council has received 87 public comments on the plans, with 45 objections, and 42 declarations of support for the project. Some residents are saying that the plans should be rejected because the proposed surgery site is outside of the Minchinhampton defined settlement development boundary, is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and will have a detrimental impact on the environment.

People across North Somerset are being supported to improve their wellbeing through social prescribing schemes run by GP practices.
With a social prescription, patients are connected with Link Workers who support people who may be struggling with problems such as social isolation or anxiety by connecting them to services in the community which can help.
Each patient who is referred typically has six sessions with the Link Worker who is able to spend more time with a patient than a GP would during an appointment.
The scheme is run by Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group.
