MONTREAL Quebec reported Saturday that 958 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic to 357,174. Of those, 337,538 people are reported to have recovered from the disease, an increase of 1,033. Active COVID-19 cases dropped by 82, as the Quebec Institute of Public Health (INSPQ) is now reporting 8,655 active cases. The province also reported seven more deaths due to the novel coronavirus, including one in the past 24 hours, five between May 1 and May 6, and one before May 1. Since the pandemic began, 10,981 Quebecers are reported to have died due to COVID-19.
MONTREAL Quebcers are using more cannabis during confinement and cigarette smokers are smoking more, according to a study released Tuesday from the Quebec Institute of Public Health (INSPQ). One-third (32 per cent) of cannabis users questioned by INSPQ researchers during April 16 to 28 reported that their consumption had increased in the last week, compared to the period before the pandemic. In contrast, 55 per cent reported that their use had remained the same and only 15 per cent reported that their use had decreased. The most significant increase was among young adults between the ages of 18 and 34, where 39 per cent reported using more cannabis products.
Quebec reported its lowest number of active COVID-19 cases since the end of March on Sunday when the province said there were 9,425 active cases. Quebec also reported 1,006 new positive novel coronavirus tests and nine more deaths.

The total number of positive cases since the start of the pandemic is now 350,874, including 330,362 people who are reported to have recovered. The average number of cases per day in the past week is now 1,011, and the Quebec Institute of Public Health reporting there are 9,579 active cases in the province. Quebec also added seven deaths due to the disease, including one in the past 24 hours, five between April 24 and April 29, and one before April 24. Since the pandemic began, the province reports that 10,933 people have died due to COVID-19.
The Quebec Institute of Public Health (INSPQ) is reporting another significant drop in active cases. There are now 9,673 active cases in the province, which is down by 281 cases in the last 24 hours. To date, 329,174 people have recovered from the virus, which is 1,309 more than the day before. On April 28, 43,675 samples were analyzed. Variants were also on the rise with 370 new identified cases. So far, 3,963 cases of variants have been sequenced. The B.1.1.7 variant, first identified in the U.K., remains the most dominant strain of the virus with 3,709 identified cases in Quebec. VACCINATIONS The province reported 63,145 vaccinations in the last 24 hours, bringing that total to 3,104,026 doses administered. This means 35.7 per cent of the population has received a first dose.
