If you’re an artist in Northeast Michigan, The News wants to put you to work.
We’re looking for original designs, drawings, paintings, or photographs by regional artists that celebrate Northeast Michigan’s resilience over the past year and/or look forward to the region’s bright future.
The News will choose artwork for a T-shirt to go on sale this summer, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Community Impact Fund at the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan.
The artist or artists selected will receive a free T-shirt and promotion of his or her artwork in The News.

ROGERS CITY The Presque Isle District Library is the recipient of the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan, Community Impact grant for $1,500 to support this year’s Summer Reading Program.
The funding will be used to cover expenses to bring in three guest performances at the Rogers City Theater. Dynamic West Assemblies will present “Animal Tales” on Wednesday, June 16; the Sloan Museum’s Longway Planetarium will present “Worm Motels” on July 14; and Spencer Scharf with S3 Arts will present an interactive program called “Next Level Hidden Rock Painting.”
All three programs were created to engage the whole family for an exciting summer program series.

Gordon Nethercut, devoted family man, professional leader, and community servant, passed on peacefully on Good Friday, April 2, 2021 at the age of 92 after several months of declining health. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 68 years, Vernie, his three children Cynthia Nethercut (husband Joseph Altonji) of Madison, Connecticut; John Nethercut (wife Sonie) of Baltimore, Maryland; and William (Bill) Nethercut of Ossineke, Michigan; and three grandchildren–Matthew Altonji, Justin Nethercut, and Mary Altonji. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert (and wife Jean) Nethercut, of St. Paul, Minnesota. Gordon was born June 28, 1928 in Sandusky, Ohio to Donald and Helen (Porch) Nethercut. He graduated from Elyria (Ohio) High School in 1946 and from Denison University in 1950 with a BA in Economics. At Denison, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Blue Key Honor Society, and Beta Alpha Psi (an accounting honorary society). He was a loyal Denison alu
