Liquor traders warned to be wary over Covid-19 safety

Cape Town - The Liquor Traders Council has warned its members not to drop their guard against Covid-19 and to continue enforcing mask wearing, social distancing and proper hygiene as the number of infections show a worrying upward trend.
National Liquor Traders Council convenor Lucky Ntimane said the council had been working closely with the liquor industry to drive maximum compliance with Covid-19 safety protocols among taverns and their patrons.
Ntimane said that included hiring Community Policing Forum members to enhance safety in and around taverns, and conducting inspections to check on compliance with Covid-19 protocols and liquor licence conditions.

Cape Town - A nine-year-old child was shot dead while playing with a police officer s firearm with two of her friends in Mbekweni at the weekend.
Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk said a murder case was registered for investigation after a shooting incident on Friday night, at a premises in Drommedaris at Mbekweni, where the child was shot and fatally wounded.
According to a leaked police report, three minor children were invited to play at the officer s house, when he just arrived from work and took off his service pistol and put it on the sofa to fetch water.

It says it s been working closely with the liquor industry to drive maximum compliance with safety protocols.
Council convener, Lucky Ntimane, says this includes roping in Community Policing Forum members to check that drinking spots are following regulations.
He says the industry has pulled together to improve behaviour so that they can trade safely and protect livelihoods.
Look N2 Freeway Rock Throwing: Security officer arrests suspect
The suspect threw a rock that smashed a motorist s windscreen in Nandi Drive just outside Durban, luckily no one was killed or injured.
A suspect who was allegedly throwing rocks at vehicles from the Queen Nandi Drive bridge onto vehicles on the N2 freeway North of Durban was arrested by a local armed response officer on Thursday morning.
Marshall Security reported in a Facebook post that the firm’s Emergency Dispatch Centre had received a call from a client regarding a rock throwing incident in Queen Nandi Drive at around 9.15 am on Thursday morning.
