Step by step, however, a combination of academic findings, rending personal testimony and legal action is creating significant change within sports where physical contact is a constant, or even the whole point. The long-running debate about whether boxing, where concussion is the gold medal outcome, should be banned, is now being extended to other combat sports such as mixed martial arts. The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) was among sporting Federations to have submitted evidence online in March to the United Kingdom Government s Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Inquiry into Concussion in Sport, the latest enquiry in this broad area.

Estonian Olympic Committee recognises MMA as a sport Friday, 7 May 2021 The Estonian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (EMMAF) has been accepted as a member of the Estonian Olympic Committee (EOC), with mixed martial arts (MMA) being recognised as a sport in Estonia. EMMAF Board member Ott Tõnissaar expressed his delight after more than a decade of aiming for national recognition. I am pleased to say, that after more than 15 years of work we can say that we are here to stay, as the EMMAF yesterday became a fully-fledged member of the EOC, said Tõnissaar. This means that MMA is now a Government recognised sport in Estonia and the EMMAF is its sole, national representative.

IMMAF YOUTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021

IMMAF YOUTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021 04/30/21 Competitor registration opens today for the 2021 IMMAF Youth MMA Championships for twelve to eighteen-year-olds, which is to take place in Istanbul at the Hyatt Regency Istanbul Ataköy from 29 July – 1 August. The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s second instalment of its under -18s tournament will take place without an audience in order to create a safe environment for international participants with respect to the global pandemic. All participants are to be tested for COVID-19 on arrival on 28 July before entering the competition ‘bubble’. Supporters instead will be able to watch the full three days of the youth competition, streamed live for the first time from 30 July – 1 August. Viewing information is to be announced in due course.

MMA receives official recognition in Tajikistan Thursday, 29 April 2021 Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has received Government recognition in Tajikistan after 18 months of successful development work by the country s National Federation. The Tajikistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (TAJMMAF) achieved its long-awaited goal when Tajikistan’s Committee of Youth Affairs and Sports confirmed it was listed in the nation’s official registry of sports. This significant moment - which follows a fruitful official visit from the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) President Kerrith Brown - has come as a next step after the TAJMMAF obtained official organisational accreditation from the Committee of Youth Affairs and Sports in November 2019.
