TIR system goes live in Qatar; to speed up supply chains 01 Jun 2021 - 15:58 QNA Brussels: The International Road Transport Union (IRU) has officially announced the implementation of the TIR agreement for transit in the State of Qatar under the TIR system. With Qatar set to host a series of major international events in the coming years, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, TIR will help speed up supply chains, ensuring the secure and timely delivery of goods to and from the state in the GCC region and worldwide. TIR, the only global transit system, allows goods to be shipped from one country to another in sealed load compartments that are controlled by customs via a multilateral, mutually recognized and UN-backed system.

US, Pakistan launch pilot project to increase trade

Daily Times May 8, 2021 The United States government along with the government of Pakistan has launched the first international shipment from Pakistan that is compliant with the United Nations’ “Transports Internationaux Routiers” (TIR) Convention, an international customs transit system that facilitates trade by expediting border checks between countries. According to USA Embassy’s press release here on Friday, the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Pakistan Regional Economic Integration Activity (PREIA) provided technical and financial support for the pilot project. Utilizing the international transport company TCS, this week’s pilot shipment was the first in a series of five planned trial runs between Pakistan and Central Asia.
