The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, April 18, and Saturday, April 24, was 3,893, a decrease of 3,088 from last week’s adjusted numbers. There were 3,494 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, and 399 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state. The number of continuing weekly unemployment claims was 31,149, a decrease of 1,801 from the previous week. For the week ending April 24, 2021, nearly 50.7% of claimants indicated their claims were not COVID-19 related, which is an increase from 41.5% the previous week.

Washington State ranks 26th in the country for the amount of federal COVID aid it has received through April 15, 2021, according to the latest data compiled by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. Thus far, Washington has received, $54.6 billion in federal COVID relief and $7,177 in federal relief per capita.

Democratic lawmakers in both chambers of Congress are clamoring for a fourth round of stimulus checks to help Americans who are still struggling financially during the coronavirus pandemic.
Such a move could lift more than 7 million people out of poverty, according to a recent analysis from the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan think tank.
This comes as President Joe Biden marks his 100th day in office this week. Biden hasn’t said publicly whether he supports a fourth stimulus payment and there was no indication during his first address to Congress on Wednesday about introducing another bill with more direct payments.
