Just as Michigan s Unemployment Insurance Agency finished implementing new federal programs that allow the majority of unemployed workers in the state to claim benefits, some users were unable to log in to the site Monday.
When claimants went to the state s unemployment website and tried to log in with their MiWAM logins, they were redirected to a waiting area, and then the site wouldn t load.
Caleb Buhs, communications director for Michigan s Department of Technology, Management and Budget, said MiLogin, which allows users to access many state services and systems online across multiple departments, is experiencing slowness this morning causing some users the inability to connect.

A new group of unemployed Michiganders will start getting their benefits again – including up to five weeks of retroactive payments.
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency has finished updating its system to handle the federal government’s $916 billion December stimulus package.
The package allowed for an additional 11 weeks of benefits for people on Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation programs. PUA had offered 39 weeks of benefits and now offers 50 weeks, while PEUC had offered 13 weeks of benefits and now gives 24 weeks.
1099-G tax forms are now available for claimants who received unemployment insurance (UI) benefits in 2020, the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) announced today. Claimants who collected UI benefits last year need the 1099-G tax form from IDES to complete state and federal tax returns. This includes claimants who received regular UI benefits and/or benefits under the new federal pandemic relief programs, including Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), Lost Wages Assistance (LWA), and state Extended Benefits (EB).
Claimants who opted to receive their 1099-G tax form electronically, which is an option available when claimants establish an IDES account, will receive an email notification with instructions to access the document from the IDES website. Claimants who opted not to receive their 1099-G tax form electronically will receive a paper form via regular mail;
