In partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, the City of Santa Clarita plans to launch the “Guard That Auto” campaign in the spring to combat the increase in grand theft auto over the past year.
“Guard That Auto” is set to launch in the spring of 2021 with a primary focus on tips related to locking up and keeping not only vehicles safe, but the contents inside as well.
Officials say that the campaign is intended to educate drivers and citizens on safety tips in an effort to reduce the number of stolen vehicles in Santa Clarita.

An assault suspect was taken into custody Tuesday after he allegedly chased an individual with a rake in Canyon Country.
Around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to the Starbucks Coffee Shop on the 19000 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country, said Lt. Doug Morhoff with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“An informant called the station saying he saw a male chasing another male with a rake,” Morhoff said.
Deputies were able to locate and detain the suspect at gunpoint shortly after they arrived on scene, according to Sheriff’s officials.
The number of reported DUI arrests doubled compared to the previous weekend, and the overall number of drug- and alcohol-related arrests increased by just over 71% between the two weekends.
Just under 53% of reported individuals arrested over the weekend gave home addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, an increase of five total people compared to the previous weekend.
Despite the higher number of reported arrests, the number of felony charges reported decreased by nearly 54% from the previous weekend.
