Santa Clarita Weekend Arrests See 40 Percent Increase Santa Clarita saw 24 arrests this weekend, a 40 percent increase from the previous week, with nearly half being for driving under the influence (DUI). Between Friday and Sunday, 24 arrests were made in Santa Clarita compared to 14 last week, with a majority of arrests being drug and alcohol-related. Out of the 24 arrests made this weekend, 19 were drug-related. Last week saw less than half that number of drug-related arrests, with only nine arrests made. The most common arrest this weekend was for DUI. Out of all the arrests, 10 were made on DUI charges. Nearly Fifty Percent Of L.A. County Residents Fully Vaccinated, Including Santa Clarita As of Monday, 50 percent of L.A. County residents ages 16 and over have been fully vaccinated, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH). Los Angeles County is offering vaccines at many sites across the County in order to make it more accessible for eligible L.A. County residents to get vaccinated. This week, there are 756 sites offering vaccinations including pharmacies, clinics, community sites, and hospitals. Vaccines can be currently obtained at the eight county-run sites, all the L.A. city run sites, almost all mobile sites and many of the community sites without an appointment, according to LADPH.

County Department of Public Health (Public Health) Sunday, with four new confirmed cases in Santa Clarita.  Public Health released the latest data on positive cases of COVID-19 with 175 positive tests across L.A. County and four in Santa Clarita, according to Public Health.  The number of cases and deaths are likely to reflect reporting delays over the weekend. L.A. County has experienced 1,238,781 positive cases and 24,171 deaths since the onset of the pandemic, with 339 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19.

COVID-19 Variants Continue To Be Discovered In Los Angeles County Variant cases of COVID-19 continue to be identified in Los Angeles County, with the most common circulating variant of concern in L.A. County being the UK variant. Out of 40 specimens analyzed by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) laboratory in the past week, 53 percent were the UK variant (B.1.1.7.) and none were the previously dominant California variant. The lab also detected six Brazil variants last week and one South African variant. “We send our deepest condolences to the friends and families who are grieving today and wish you healing,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of Public Health. “There has now been ample research conducted on the vaccine, and study after study show extraordinarily high level of protection from COVID-19. We have so much proof that these vaccines are safe and very effective at preventing infection, serious illness and death from COVID-19.”
