Attorney Calls for State to Investigate Lompoc Police Shooting

Housing and Development Newsletter “The Lompoc Police Department is awaiting the determination of the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office pending the review of the completed investigation by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.” Schmidt said that despite the dispute regarding the weapon, “nothing prevents the AG from taking over an investigation at any time.” He noted that Sheriff Bill Brown served as Lompoc’s former police chief overseeing the recruitment and training of police officers.  Brown was hired as Lompoc’s police chief in 1995 and served 11 years before being elected as sheriff.  Schmidt also contends that District Attorney Joyce Dudley is “prominently featured” in the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, or POST, training video regarding amendments to laws related to the justified use of lethal force by peace officers.
