Benicia Unified School District had 344 sixth grade students during 2018-2019 school year, according to the California Department of Education. Los Angeles Unified School District had the highest number of sixth grade students enrolled in California with 45,547.
According to numbers provided by the National Center for Education Services, California is expected to see a decrease of three percent in public elementary and secondary school enrollment from 2017-2029. The state expected to see the largest drop in enrollment is New Mexico with a projected 12 percent decrease, while Washington D.C. is projected to see a 14 percent increase over the same time period.

In 2013, the San Diego Unified School District board chose Cindy Marten as the new superintendent behind closed doors, hours after then-Superintendent Bill Kowba told the board that he would retire and before the general public knew the board needed a new superintendent.
Community members said the move violated open meeting laws and denied them the chance to give input.

President Joe Biden’s nominee for deputy secretary of education said that children should not return to school in San Diego despite evidence from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggesting that in-person learning is safe.
Cindy Marten, Superintendent of San Diego Unified School District and Biden’s education pick, said Tuesday that students would remain home from school and did not suggest any possible re-opening dates.
“Despite the progress that is being made and all of the best efforts of all of our employees, it’s important that we recognize that the virus continues to spread and it’s out of control in our communities,” she said according to The San-Diego Union Tribune. “The fact that we’re losing 4,000 of our fellow Americans to this disease every day is shocking and something we must all continue to attend to. This is not the time to let up on our efforts to defeat this deadly virus.”
SDUSD needs more transparency about school reopening plans
The lack of transparency on the part of the San Diego Unified School District and the teachers union on school reopening plans shows a lack of respect for the parent community and is a breeding ground for resentment and toxicity in our schools.
At no point during this pandemic have any parents I know tried to place people in harm’s way, but rather have tried to show their support for the safe options that do exist going as far as to submit official proposals for outdoor classrooms complete with all logistics involved, pledging countless hours and whatever it would take in terms of volunteerism to make a personalized approach for each individual school site.

A public-school teacher in California who documents her state’s far-left agenda has stumbled upon a new one: Training youths to boot the police from their school campuses and use the funds to promote sex education.
Advocates for Youth, a left-wing group that promotes sex education, held a mid-January training program with the goal of training students to kick the police out of their schools and use the funding to promote students’ “health and rights.”
The training program was noticed by teacher Brenda Lebsack, who operates the website brenda4kids.com and tells One News Now how the money currently funding police officers’ would be redirected.
