Head-on crash kills 2 on Bear Valley Road in Apple Valley Victorville Daily Press A man and woman were killed Wednesday night in a head-on crash in Apple Valley that left two others injured, including a 4-year-old girl. The San Bernardino County Sheriff s Department only identified the deceased as a 54-year-old man who was driving a Toyota Camry and a 26-year-old woman who was driving a Ford Taurus. Emergency personnel responded to the crash shortly after 10:40 p.m. on Bear Valley Road, west of Multnomah Road. Authorities said they believed the Ford was traveling westbound on Bear Valley when, “for an unknown reason, the Taurus crossed over the two-way left turn lane and into the eastbound lanes of Bear Valley Road.”

Deputies shoot, kill knife-wielding man in his vehicle outside Lucerne Valley gas station Victorville Daily Press Deputies shot and killed a man who was reportedly brandishing a knife early Friday morning after authorities said he backed his car into a patrol vehicle at a gas station in Lucerne Valley. The San Bernardino County Sheriff s Department only identified the man as a 65-year-old Big Bear resident. On Saturday, sheriff’s spokesperson Jodi Miller said the coroner’s division was having difficulty locating his next of kin. Deputies responded to the Sinclair gas station at 32787 Highway 18 shortly before 5:30 a.m. Friday after receiving an emergency call from an employee. Authorities said the employee told them the man parked his vehicle in front of the store and brandished the knife at her. 

Remains of woman lost in Mojave Desert last year found

A Bullhead City woman who went missing in the Mojave Desert more than a year ago have been found. In July 2019, Barbara Thomas, 69, was hiking with her husband, Robert, in the desert about 20 miles north of the I-40 freeway east of Kelbaker Road. During the hike, Barbara and Robert allegedly got separated. According to Supervisor Jeff Lewison of the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner s Division, her body was located on November 27 of this year in the desert near Essex, California. An autopsy has been completed, Lewison confirmed, but the cause of death is still pending. Barbara was last seen wearing a black bikini, a red baseball cap and tan hiking boots with black socks. She had no supplies with her.

The husband of a 34-year-old soldier stationed at Fort Irwin National Training Center is behind bars on suspicion of murder after the woman was found dead at their home earlier this month. Authorities arrested Ervin Padgett, 37, in Las Vegas on Dec. 2 after he was discharged from a hospital, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement released Monday. Sheriff’s spokesperson Jodi Miller said Padgett is expected to be extradited to San Bernardino County this week. On Dec. 8, local prosecutors charged him with the murder of his wife, U.S. Army Sgt. First Class Rebecca Padgett, court records show.
