The San Luis Obispo County District Attorneyâs Office says it will use alleged sex crimes authorities believe Paul Flores committed against other women in the murder case against him.
District Attorney Dan Dow announced Wednesday that a first-degree murder charge has been filed against Flores, 44, in connection with the 1996 disappearance of Cal Poly freshman Kristin Smart.

A California man and his father charged in connection with the 1996 disappearance of 19-year-old college student Kristin Smart did not enter pleas during their first virtual court appearance Thursday morning.
Paul Flores, whom investigators declared a prime suspect last month, made his remote appearance in San Luis Obispo Superior Court wearing a suit and tie, while his 80-year-old father, Ruben Flores, appeared in an orange prison jumpsuit.
Defense attorneys for the Flores’ requested that the arraignments be continued until Monday, when they will enter a plea and hear arguments related to bail. A San Luis Obispo Superior Court judge approved the request and set a new date for April 19 at 1:30 p.m. PT.

San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow is seeking more potential victims linked to Paul Flores, the man prosecutors say assaulted and killed Cal Poly student Kristin Smart in 1996.
Flores was charged with murder in the decades-long unsolved case of Smart, who went missing on the walk to her dorm after attending a party on Memorial Day weekend. Flores, 44, was the last known person to see her alive and has long been the only suspect in the case.

Ruben Flores is accused of helping to hide Smart s body.
