Nipomo man sentenced for fatal 2018 DUI crash SLO Co. Jail and last updated 2021-03-04 19:41:19-05 A Nipomo man was sentenced Thursday to 15 years-to-life in prison for causing a deadly crash in Nipomo more than two years ago. The sentence comes after Edgar Saul Rojas Morales, 25, was found guilty of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, and driving on a suspended license during his jury trial last December. The jury deadlocked on the most serious charge of murder. According to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney s Office, the jury was split 11-1 in favor of guilt.

SLO District Attorney offers to postpone prosecution for five protesters

During a virtual appearance in the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court on March 3, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney s Office recommended a misdemeanor diversion for five of the seven local Black Lives Matter protesters charged with endangering and violating the personal liberty of nonparticipants in a protest last July. Citing the community s division over the case, Deputy District Attorney Delaney Henretty made the request, asking the court to consider the defendants Marcus Montgomery, Amman Asfaw, Joshua Powell, Sam Grocott, and Jerad Hill lack of criminal history and the belief that their actions were done to stop racial discrimination, a worthy goal.

Paso Robles police nab alleged graffiti vandals March 4, 2021 By JOSH FRIEDMAN Paso Robles police have identified a pair of California Valley residents who allegedly spray painted graffiti containing cryptic messages on a bus and several locations in Paso Robles. The graffiti was reportedly discovered on Saturday. A few days later, investigators tracked down Ben Delashmutt and Michell Baranek, both 43. Delashmutt and Baranek admitted to committing the vandalism, according to the Paso Robles Police Department. Police are recommending the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office file felony vandalism charges against Delashmutt and Baranek. The police department is also thanking citizens who it says helped solved the crime.
