An Atascadero, California, woman was sentenced March 16 to serve 10 years and four months in state prison following her plea of no contest to 18 counts of embezzlement, two counts of forgery and one count of attempted embezzlement of a local construction company she worked for.
Joy Wilde, 43, pleaded no contest to every charge alleged against her, including an allegation that she stole more than $500,000. The admission to stealing more than $500,000 requires Wilde to serve her sentence in state prison, as opposed to county jail, according to a release from the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney s office.

Atascadero woman slapped with more than 10 years in prison for embezzlement

An Atascadero woman who embezzled nearly $900,000 from a Creston construction company was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years and four months in state prison.
Over a period of more than three years, Joy Noel Wilde, 43, stole $877,123 from her former employer, Greg Wiemann Construction, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office. Wilde’s scheme involved passing 64 fraudulent checks and attempting to pass three others. Wilde was working as a bookkeeper and office manager for the construction company during the time the theft occurred.
An investigation into Wilde’s activities began on July 9, 2019, when Gregg Wiemann told the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office that his bookkeeper embezzled more than $47,000. A San Luis Obispo County jury convicted 37-year-old Lucion Lee Edward Banks for human trafficking a 14-year-old girl in San Luis Obispo.
Banks was first caught when a SLO police officer conducted a traffic stop on Oct. 5, 2018, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorneyâs Office. The officer noticed multiple signs indicating human trafficking, but Banks was initially arrested and booked for an unrelated traffic misdemeanor warrant.
Upon further investigation, SLOPD found the officer s initial suspicions were correct and Banks was then charged with felony human trafficking of a minor.
