Sheriff: 21-year-old man dies after Chautauqua County car crash

TOWN OF ELLERY, N.Y. (WKBW) â The Chautauqua County Sheriff s Office says a 21-year-old Mayville man is dead after a crash Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened just after 3 p.m. on Westman Road in the Town of Ellery.
Investigators say the vehicle had been traveling eastbound on I-86 when it drove off the shoulder and struck the bridge of the Westman Road overpass.
The victim has been identified as Joseph Zatyko.
Officials say no charges are pending at this time.

An investigation into stolen catalytic converters and damaged vehicles in the town of Hanover resulted in numerous charges filed against an Erie County man.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office announced the charges Monday against 35-year-old Joseph S. Hoddick that include first- and third-degree auto stripping, third- and fourth-degree grand larceny and second- and third-degree criminal mischief.
The Sheriff’s Office did not go into specifics regarding the thefts and damages to the vehicles. The charges were the result of a review by the Chautauqua County Criminal Investigation Division.
According to state law, auto stripping in the first degree, a class D felony, is described as when someone removes or intentionally destroys, defaces, disguises, or alters any part of three or more vehicles, other than abandoned vehicles.

Evans man arrested following investigation into stolen catalytic converters in Town of Hanover

TOWN OF HANOVER, N.Y. (WKBW) â The Chautauqua County Sheriff s Office says an Evans man has been arrested following the investigation into stolen catalytic converters and damaged vehicles in the Town of Hanover.
35-year-old Joseph S. Hoddick was arrested and charged with the following after the investigation was completed:

A Forestville man charged last year following a rash of burglaries in numerous towns has been indicted by a Chautauqua County grand jury.
Gary Lang, 52, pleaded not guilty when arraigned Feb. 24 in Chautauqua County Court to a single charge of third-degree burglary, a class D felony. He was originally charged in January 2020 with two counts of second-degree burglary, five counts of petit larceny, third-degree criminal tampering and trespassing after an “extensive investigation” into burglaries reported over two months in the towns of Ripley, Pomfret and Gerry.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Lang allegedly entered two homes at night while residents were asleep and stole property. The Forestville man also reportedly took property from several unlocked vehicles.
