CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Activist groups held a press conference on Thursday demanding the release of video involving the death of an inmate at the Charleston County jail.
The groups, who include the ACLU of South Carolina and Charleston Black Lives Matter, said they are calling for full transparency and accountability in Jamal Sutherlandâs death at the Al Cannon Detention Center which continues to be investigated.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - One of the two Charleston County detention deputies working in an administrative capacity since the death of a male inmate was named several years ago in a lawsuit alleging abuse of a female inmate.
Detention Sgt. Lindsay Fickett and Detention Deputy Brian Houle were placed on administrative leave after the death of 31-year-old Jamal Sutherland at the Al Cannon Detention Center on Jan. 5.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A portion of Highway 17 is closed following a two car collision involving injuries in Ravenel Tuesday afternoon.
Officials with the Charleston County Sheriffâs Office said the incident is on Highway 17 at Highway 165.
Both directions of Highway 17 is closed in the area.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A pathologist looking into the death of a Charleston County inmate while in the custody of deputies at the county jail said there were âno unusual or excessive interactions or areas of direct concernâ when the deputies were removing the inmate from a cell.
The findings were part of a statement released by Solicitor Scarlett Wilson on the death of James Sutherland who died on Jan. 5 at the Charleston County Detention Center. Her statement revealed more information on the incident as well as the current status of the investigation.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriffâs Office says they have arrested a man who tried to fight deputies while being arrested for an outstanding warrant.
Charleston County jail records show Keith Cochran, 43, has been arrested and charged with one count of malicious injury to personal property less than $2,000, two counts of assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest, one count of littering less than 15 lbs., and one count of possessing less than 28 grams of marijuana.
