Akeredolu suspends NURTW as one killed in clash

Punch Newspapers Sections Peter Dada, Akure One person was killed on Tuesday during a clash involving some factional members of the Ondo State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, at the Oja Oba area of Akure, the state capital. Following the clash, the state government announced an indefinite suspension of all activities of the union across the 18 local government areas of the state. A witness said the clash caused pandemonium at Oja Oba and some streets in Akure, as residents ran for their lives following sporadic gunshots by the warring members. The incident came barely 48 hours after the unionists fought in the Owode area of the state, injuring many people.

BREAKING: Akeredolu Orders Indefinite Suspension Of NURTW Activities In Ondo

Spread the love (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Following the violent clash between the factions of the Ondo State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers on Tuesday morning, the state government has announced the indefinite suspension of all activities of the union across the state. The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale, also ordered the NURTW members to immediately vacate all motor parks across the state. The government described the clash as unruly and uncultured behaviour of the union leaders which resulted in violent attacks on members and innocent citizens. The government, however, said the indefinite suspension did not affect Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria who comported themselves in a peaceful manner.

Breaking: One killed, two shot in Ondo union leadership tussle On Dayo Johnson Akure Ondo State Government has suspended indefinite all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across the state. One person was feared killed this morning while two others were shot by members loyal to factions in the union. Governor Rotimi Akeredolu speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale also ordered the NURTW members to immediately vacate all motor parks across the state. Odebowale said the government decision was a sequel to the “unruly and uncultured behaviour of the union leaders which resulted in violent attacks on members and the innocent citizens.
