When Joselyne Cimpaye helped care for her ailing grandmother, with the knowledge that it wouldn’t be long before her loved one would pass away, it occasionally made her sad. But as she cooked, did household chores, and kept her grandmother company, she felt the sadness being replaced by an entirely different feeling. “I really enjoyed taking care of her,” said Cimpaye, a senior at Harrison High School. “Cooking for her, cleaning, and just being with her toward the end, was a comfort to both of us. So I decided I would try to find a career in that field.”

ajohnson@minotdailynews.com Minot State University students will graduate this Friday with big plans for the future after a year filled with COVID-19 precautions. “Things have certainly been different this year,” said Jordan Will, an accounting major. Will, who also has participated on the MSU football and wrestling teams, said he was grateful to have been able to keep playing, albeit with a lot of testing protocols in place to make it viable. He’s also glad that his family and friends will be there to help him celebrate this year. Minot State’s 106th Commencement Exercise will be live with limited capacity starting at 10 a.m. Friday in the MSU Dome. MSU will honor its 2021 and 2020 graduating classes at the ceremony as 2020’s live event was canceled due to COVID-19.

South Bend high school health science program launches state certification

SOUTH BEND — South Bend schools is celebrating the launch of its participation in a state certification program for high school health sciences instruction. South Bend’s health sciences program, housed at Clay High School, is joining the State Earn and Learn, or SEAL, certification program, which allows high school students to directly enter the workforce with internship, job shadowing or other hands-on experience. The SEAL certification program is supported through federal funding. During the pandemic, South Bend students have earned this experience through partnerships with local assisted living organizations like Creekside Village, Home Instead home care and Grand Emerald Place, according to a district news release.
